Artisan diary: The story behind the design
Away from the urban sprawl of a bustling city, my sanctuary lies in a peaceful suburb overlooking the bay. This serene vantage point, with views stretching across the tranquil waters, serves as a constant source of inspiration. The rhythmic dance of waves, the soft hues of dawn and dusk, and the silvery beams of moonlight casting shimmering patterns on the water's surface are daily spectacles that never cease to amaze me.
One such evening, as the moonlight painted the bay with a silvery glow, I found myself drawn to Irish poet W.B. Yeats's (1865-1939) poem, "The Cat and the Moon." The imagery of Minnaloushe, entranced by the moon’s luminance, resonated deeply, reminding me of the bay's own nightly dance under the moon.
Compelled to capture this connection, I began to design a piece that would intertwine the poem's essence with the bay's nocturnal beauty. Sterling silver, known for its reflective brilliance, was my material of choice. I crafted a pendant, showcasing a modern interpretation of a cat, its form clean and understated, looking up at a delicately shaped moon.
For me, this pendant was more than just an accessory. It represented a harmonious blend of poetic artistry and the bay's timeless allure. It's a reminder of those quiet moments when nature's beauty intersects with human creativity, giving rise to something truly special.
